Nestled in the Cotswolds, Holland Cooper founder Jade Holland Cooper’s 1830s Bath stone home effortlessly blends period architecture with practical family living. Set within 230 acres, the estate serves as both a peaceful sanctuary and a reflection of her signature British aesthetic.

Inside, Jade pairs classic antiques with natural materials and layered textiles to create a warm, lived-in feel. Her approach offers plenty of inspiration for anyone seeking timeless decorating ideas that work for modern family life.

Here, Jade shares a look inside her home – from restoring original features to creating family spaces – and reveals how her country roots continue to shape her style.

Who do you live with and where? Why is living in the Cotswolds so special?

I live in the Cotswolds with my husband and our children, in a Bath stone house dating back to the 1830s, surrounded by 230 acres of countryside. Our businesses are based here too, so everything I do is centred around the Cotswolds. It is where I work, where I raise my family and where I feel most at home.

I grew up on a farm, surrounded by horses, so country life has always been part of who I am. Living here feels completely natural. The Cotswolds have such a strong sense of heritage, craftsmanship and timeless British style, and that is reflected in everything we create as a brand.

It has been exciting to see the Cotswolds back in the spotlight through shows like Rivals and The Gentlemen. People are rediscovering what makes it so special. It’s always had that effortless mix of tradition and modern luxury, and I think that is what people are drawn to.

Growing up in the countryside also shaped how I think about clothing. I believe in investing in pieces that are beautifully made, practical and built to last. That’s been at the heart of the brand from day one.

What kind of English home do you have?

Our home is a neoclassical Bath stone house dating back to the 1830s, full of character and set into the hillside with views across the surrounding countryside. It’s peaceful, private, and exactly where we want to be.

Having grown up on a farm, I always wanted my own children to have that same freedom- to spend their days outdoors, helping in the garden, feeding the chickens, and enjoying country life. Inside, it’s a reflection of everything I love about British interiors. It’s timeless rather than trend-led, with antiques, natural materials, and pieces we’ve collected over the years. Nothing feels too precious; we’re a busy family, so it has to work as a home first and foremost. I think the best interiors evolve over time, and the things with the most character are usually the ones with the best stories behind them.

How long have you lived there, and what kind of work have you done to the house?

Julian bought the house in 2011 and spent several years restoring it. It had incredible bones, but a lot of work was needed to bring it back to its former glory. He carefully restored the original architectural details and reconfigured the layout to make it work for modern family life, while always respecting the character of the house. When I moved in in 2016, the interiors were a blank canvas. That’s when I made it my own.

I’ve always been passionate about interiors, and for me it’s never about decorating a house overnight. It’s about layering pieces over time, mixing antiques with more practical everyday furniture, and creating rooms that feel lived in. We are a busy family, so the house must work hard.

There are always people coming and going, and children running around, and I would not have it any other way. The best homes have personality. Ours is constantly evolving, but it’s always felt warm, welcoming, and like somewhere people can truly relax.

How would you describe your interior style?

I’d describe my style as classic with a contemporary way of living. I like rooms that feel considered, but never overly styled. A home should be lived in, not just looked at, so comfort is just as important as how it looks. With children, dogs and a busy household, everything must earn its place.

I love mixing antiques with more modern pieces and collecting things over time rather than decorating everything at once. The rooms are always evolving, and I think that’s what gives a home real character.

It’s probably no surprise that the same style runs through everything I do. Whether it is our home, No. 131, the hotel we own, or a Holland Cooper boutique, they all have the same feel.

What is your favourite space in the house and why?

I would say the family room. It’s the hub of the house and where we spend the most time together as a family. It’s where we relax at the end of the day, where the children spend time and where we entertain friends.

I like rooms that feel comfortable and lived in. It’s a beautiful space, but it also works hard for family life. I’ve never wanted the house to feel too formal or like a show home - it needs to feel welcoming and reflect the way we actually live.

And which is the most important space?

I’d probably say the entrance hall. It’s the first impression of the house and sets the tone for everything that follows. I wanted people to walk in and immediately feel relaxed and at home. It’s a beautiful space with so much character, but it’s not meant to feel formal or intimidating.

We’ve also used the entrance hall for so many Holland Cooper photoshoots because it captures the feeling we love - elegant, timeless and full of personality, but still warm and welcoming. It’s a space that feels very much like us.

What is your most treasured possession?

I’d probably say the pieces in the house that have a story behind them. I love antiques and things that have lived a life before they came to us. They bring so much character to a room. For me, it’s not about having the most expensive things; it’s about having things that mean something. The pieces we have collected over the years are what make the house feel personal.

How does your home align with your work with fashion?

I think my home and my work are very closely connected. In both, I’m drawn to the same things - quality, heritage and pieces that are made to last.

With Holland Cooper, it’s about creating clothing that feels timeless and has a sense of occasion but is also practical and designed to be worn. I approach interiors in much the same way. I like spaces that have character, where every piece has a purpose and where you can see the quality in the details. Whether it’s our home, No. 131, or the Holland Cooper boutiques, there’s a shared aesthetic. I love classic design, but it must work for modern life. It needs to feel welcoming, comfortable, and like somewhere people want to spend time.

How do you enjoy the outside space of your home?

The outside space is a huge part of our home. Having grown up on a farm, I’ve always felt most at home outdoors, so the garden and grounds are really important to me and to our family.

The gardens were originally designed by previous Chelsea Flower Show winners Urquhart & Hunt, and since 2018 my mother has taken over the landscape design. It’s been lovely to see it evolve and become a real reflection of our family and the way we live.

The whole estate is organically certified, which is something we’re very proud of. We’ve always wanted to work with the land in a way that feels responsible and respectful, while creating a space that can be enjoyed by everyone.

One of my favourite parts is the wedding walk, which was planted with daffodils as a wedding gift in 2018. It’s beautiful when they come out each spring; it’s such a lovely reminder of our special day. For us, the garden is not just something to look at. It’s where the children spend time, where we walk, entertain and switch off. It’s very much part of our everyday life.

Finally, what should no English Home be without?

I think no English home is complete without a fire. There’s something so timeless about gathering around a fire - it’s the heart of a room and instantly makes a space feel warm and welcoming. It’s one of those simple things that never goes out of style.

Whether you are seeking inspiration from the varied interior design styles popularised by the many celebrities who live in the Cotswolds, or looking for practical ideas on how to decorate a Georgian home, Jade’s approach offers an enduring template for country living.
