Founder of Posie & Penn, Jenna Tyrwhitt-Drake, discovered a gap in the market when decorating her own daughter’s bedroom. ‘The children’s furniture market splits into two camps, which have always made parents choose between mass-market flat-pack furniture that’s affordable but soulless, or high-end boutique pieces that are beautiful but upwards of two thousand pounds,’ she explains. ‘I wanted something that felt bespoke and elevated but without the price tag.’
Her solution was to create a daybed to combine style, quality and affordability. The upholstered finish gives each piece a tailored look and is far more aesthetically pleasing than flat-pack pieces, whilst a handy drawer pulls out to reveal a spare bed - perfect for sleepovers or extra guests. The bed has become a signature piece of Posie & Penn, available with a straight back or a rather charming wavy scallop design, in distinctive gingham checks that will complement children’s room schemes, and last well into teenage years, too.
Custom pieces are also available, with upholstery fabric provided by the customer. For a beautifully coordinated look, Posie & Penn has recently extended its range to include chairs, storage ottomans and lampshades finished in the same checked fabrics.
What Jenna is particularly proud of is that the brand can offer such a ‘bespoke’ decorated look, with all the practical and quality benefits at an accessible price point. Each daybed is available at under £1,000 and masterfully crafted so it is also suitable for adults.
